About

“Cryo Tools” is a community effort to build a collection of open source software tools for scientific analysis. Our focus is on cryospheric investigations, including glaciers, permafrost, climate change, sensitivity analysis. Most of the tools are, however, also applicable in a variety of other contexts.

This website focuses on information and documentation. You will find tutorials and sample data as well as links to other resources and references. Its counterpart is our GitHub-Repository where source code is stored and developing takes place.

Our network is open to all who want to help developing and promoting these tools. If you are interested in joining the Cryo Tools community there are several ways to get started:

  1. You may either contact us and discuss your plans and ideas, or
  2. Report a bug or add a feature request in the GitHub issue, or
  3. Start developing right away by forking one of our repositories, adding your code, and asking for a merge, subsequently.

When you use Cryo Tools in your project, please make sure to consider the License file(s). We are always happy to see “cryo-tools.org” in the Acknowledgements sections of publications.

The Cryo Tools website was created within the scope of the project ‘MOdel and Remote Sensing-based Analysis of glacier-related Natural Hazards in the Tien Shan mountains’ (MORSANAT).
The project MORSANAT is funded by Geo.X, the ‘Research Network for Geosciences in Berlin and Potsdam’.
